no more diapers

I love this picture Well, I used JP's last diaper the other night! :( I have to admit, I am a little sad. It means he's no longer a baby! He's growing up so fast. I do, however, love the stage he is in. He talks all the time and is so funny. It's amazing to me the things he comes up with on a daily basis. I thought I would list a few things he is doing now...
  • He recognizes his numbers 1 through 10
  • He knows his colors
  • He knows all of his shapes
  • He loves for you to read to him
  • His favorite movies are: VeggieTales "LarryBoy", Stuart Little, Charlotte's Web, CARS, "Hermie" movies, and unfortunately he still watches the DoodleBop movie
  • He loves to wrestle with anyone who will wrestle with him
  • He loves to swing in the backyard
  • He loves to swim or do anything that has to do with water
  • He talks to God about EVERYTHING...it's really sweet. At times he even takes it too far. He will "tell God on mommy" when I make him stand in time-out he tells God that he is mad at me! :)
  • He knows the "Ralf Hayes Toyota" commercial song by heart along with the "Kia of Greer" one. When he hears them on the t.v he makes us rewind the Tvo and play them back so he can sing along with them. (I know, it's weird)
  • He still carries around his cat that BJay and Rose gave him when he first came home from Guatemala. And, yes, the tail is still in his left ear when he's tired
  • Our "JP story"...he can recite the whole thing on his own now. I'm so proud of him. It melts my heart.

Well, I know this is long and I guess I'm bragging a little, but I love him so much and cannot believe sometimes how much he has learned in such a short time. Besides, he doesn't have our genes, so I can brag, right??!! Ha!

jonathan & the prom

My cousin, Jonathan, went to his prom last night. He is in the special education program at Berea High School. He was so excited. His parents could not even talk about it around him. They had to spell the word P.R.O.M because he would not have been able to wait. I wanted to share these few pictures, because he was so handsome!

old school pic & random babble

Hmmm...not too much happening around the Beam house. Today was a fun day. Scott came home from playing golf and took JP out for some "daddy" time. I was able to clean the house and take a bubble bath and read ALL BY MYSELF! It was so nice! I have a great husband!
Mom and I took off with Rose, BJay and Jamie aka "Bubba" to Sticky Fingers for lunch. They were having a benefit concert for the Shriner's Hospital here in Greenville. Great lunch. BJay and Jamie left the restaurant early and took JP home to play in the hose pipe and with water balloons. Once again, this mommy had her feet propped up in the living room enjoying herself! :)
Scott had to work from the afternoon until....well, it's 9:45 and he's still not home. YUK!
My other cousin, Jonathan, went to his high school prom tonight at Berea High School. He is in special ed. there and his teachers took their class to the prom! He came by our house for pictures. He was so handsome! I will post the pics some time tomorrow.
Well, I hope everyone has had a restful weekend so far. Have I mentioned on here that I have TEN MORE FULL DAYS OF SCHOOL LEFT!!!!!! YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we are potty training

We introduced the potty a while back. He then went through a phase where he wanted NOTHING to do with it. Well, unfortunately for him, it's no longer a choice! He is beginning 3 year old kindergarten in the fall and he has to be in underwear. So... I bought him some "big boy" underwear and we are putting them on him around the house at night and when we are home Saturday and Sunday. He wears pull ups most of the time except at night. He is doing remarkably well. He actually is telling me most of the time when he has to go. This morning he woke up dry and was half asleep and told me he had to "tee tee, mommy."
So, pray that we get this thing knocked out by the end of the summer. And hopefully before then! Above is the picture of his Lightening McQueen underwear. As you can see, they are a bit too big. However, the ones that fit him did not have the right picture on them. Ha!

thoughts from today...

My thoughts are jumbled up. I'm not sure that's a word, but I'm using it anyway. As Mother's Day comes to an end, I lie here in the bed a little sad. I'm not sure why. Sometimes I do get sad on Sunday nights because I love the weekends so much. It's hard going back to work each week. Thankfully, I only have a couple of weeks left! YIPPEE!

I do not know how to write down the emotions I am feeling right now, so I am going to list them in bullet form.

  • My heart is so full and I am so blessed to have a beautiful son and a wonderful husband. My Mother's Day has been so special because of them.
  • My mother is AWESOME and I thank God for her every single day!!
  • We spent the afternoon with Scott's family. I am very fortunate to have the in laws that I have.
  • It was exciting to see Amy with baby Coleman today, it being her first Mother's Day with him!
  • God has reminded me tonight of all the mommy's waiting for their children rather it be from another country or here in the U.S. My heart and prayers go out to you. I remember my first Mother's Day. JP was in Guatemala and I was here. Unless you've been there, you cannot understand the pain that comes with that day...it was miserable. Hang in there, ladies, like with labor pains, once your baby is home with you and in your arms, it will all be worth it. I promise. Happy Mother's Day to you.
  • A Mother's Day cannot come and go without Joseph's birth mom popping into my head. I do not let myself think too much about her today. I can't describe that emotion that comes with it. It's a mix between gratefulness and sadness. I often ask God to give her an eternal peace with the decision she made to give her baby to us. And I pray that on this day especially she is able to enjoy her other three children and KNOW that JP is loved and well taken care of.
  • I'm also reminded of all the nanny's at the children's home in Guatemala. Although most of them are not mothers to children of their own, they are "mommy's" to LOTS of babies waiting on their families. Thank you, MiMi and Gloria, for the love you gave to my sweet boy while he was in your care. You will never be forgotten.
  • And last, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, I thank God for allowing me to be a mother! The desire for adoption is so very strong in my heart and I love the fact that you have chosen me to mother Your orphans who are motherless! What a gift!

Good night, all!
